This was the third year that I have participated with the 17th Society to build and ride on a float for the THE BEST DAY OF THE YEAR! This is THE annual event! What is the 17th Society? It is a group of people, mostly of Irish descent, that get together on the 17th of every month to celebrate our heritage of by drinking beer and whiskey (as well as planning several other events throughout the year like a "Dallas Becomes Chicago Pub Crawl" and the Flag Football Tourney in Chicago).
The Mayor of Greenville Avenue has helped coordinate our entry into the parade for nearly a decade. This year we passed out over 11,000 beads and 12,000 shamrock stickers. This parade is especially fun because it is followed by a huge block party on Lower Greenville. If you aren't familiar with the area; it is filled with bars, bands, and surrounded by a great
neighborhood where there are many house parties: Pictures
If any of my friends in the colder regions want to visit me, this is the weekend to be here!
