This was the third year that I have participated with the 17th Society to build and ride on a float for the THE BEST DAY OF THE YEAR! This is THE annual event! What is the 17th Society? It is a group of people, mostly of Irish descent, that get together on the 17th of every month to celebrate our heritage of by drinking beer and whiskey (as well as planning several other events throughout the year like a "Dallas Becomes Chicago Pub Crawl" and the Flag Football Tourney in Chicago).

The Mayor of Greenville Avenue has helped coordinate our entry into the parade for nearly a decade. This year we passed out over 11,000 beads and 12,000 shamrock stickers. This parade is especially fun because it is followed by a huge block party on Lower Greenville. Hello All!  I apologize for the lack of posting as of late but I have been preoccupied with my new career path. I am still in technology but rather than working for an integrator, I work for a vendor. My company happens to be the fastest growing software company in history! I spent the last week in training with some of the finest people I have ever met in one place.  Needless to say, I am thoroughly invigorated by this new opportunity and considering that my territory is 16 and a half states, I may be in your neighborhood soon. I will probably query the readers for good places to take clients in some of the various cities I will be visiting for business.

Missed Technology

I enjoyed this top ten list and I have to agree with MSN about the Newton (No 10).  My dad has one as he collects all things Apple. The handwriting interpreter was well ahead of its time but rediculously innacurate.

I have a bachelorette party tonight at a place that will definitely make me laugh. I am not looking forward to viewing Rick the Lionheart or Randy in their man g-strings and cowboy hats but what the heck! It is for a good cause, isn't it? 

17th Society Float Wins Most Enthusiastic!!!

Our float won The Most Enthusiastic Award.  The parade was loads of fun but it didn't go without injury. I managed to hurt my foot running alongside the float giving beads to the children and sprinkling "lucky dust" on the crowd. We also handed out Irish Blessing scrolls. The one I liked the most is this:

I wish every day was St. Patrick's Day but at least I get to celebrate twice

Woo Hoo! The day of the St. Patrick's Day Parade is almost here.  This last week has been filled with decorating and painting tasks. I have met a lot of new people who will also be riding on the float.  The Greenville Ave. parade is on Saturday (followed by THE BEST BLOCK PARTY) so that leaves St. Patrick's Day proper free for the Trolley Pub Crawl. If anyone reading this is going to be there, the 17th Society float is situated in the middle of about 100 or so floats.  We will have nearly 8000 green beads and handing out other goodies.  Look for the censored leprechaun.  You will know it when you see it!

Dog Psychic Puts Curse on Hungarian Cannibal Choir

See just how easy it can be to create your own Weekly World News tabloid headline?  Fellow blogger Ella M. has created a generator so we can create our own conspiratorial publications.  In searching for some images to add to this post I found an actual Psychic Dog homepage.  I hope this isn't slander and I pray to God there isn't a Hungarian Cannibal Choir in existence.  I lived in Hungary and I think I would have remembered that.

Zombie of Dancing Hamster Has a Score to Settle!

Upon arriving at the office today I witnessed a particularly disturbing scenario.  It seems that the Dancing Hamster has transformed into a Zombie Dancing Hamster seeking retribution for the atrocities committed against him by our ever so deranged engineer.  I caught him in the act of severing the phone lines with my scissors.  He definitely has a score to settle and is armed with a rodent sized dagger!  How does one vanquish such a creature?  Will we ever be safe again? 

Monster Raving Loony Party

One of my dearest and oldest friends married an English gentleman after college. She moved there to attend graduate school and a wedding soon followed. We don't often get a chance to talk on the phone because of time zones and schedules but yesterday we chatted for a long while. We were both international relations majors in college and I gave her an update on one of our peers who has just been elected to some position in the Democratic Party in D.C. I expressed my disdain for our current political climate and the boredom of a two party system and she shared with me that one English party in particular has much more flavor. It is the Monster Raving Loony Party. Here's to "Global Loonification."

Run Down Violence was a success

I was in attendance at the Run Down Violence 5k in Lakewood last Thursday. It looked like there were well over 1000 adults, children and canines in attendance. Owen Wilson was there but the most amazing thing is that the victim, David Cuniff was there as well. He has movement in his arms but no real grip yet. It was very moving to see the passion of the local supporters and the community committment to David and his family. Kudos to Dallas. Please keep him in your thoughts for a full recovery.
