I wrote this in the Spring. I entered it into a contest on a whim and was pleased to have it published in an anthology. It appeared on the very first page. Not bad for a total beginner. I read it to my friend that I went to college with and she was shocked that I could make a statement without too many words. We had to write a lot of the same term papers so she would know. Jokingly, she recalled that I would often use ten words where one would suffice.
I have grown fond of simplicity. Life is too short.
The Rebellious Sign
there was this rebellious sign
it said nothing
not yield
stop
go
left
or even right
nothing
a yellow triangle
with no direction
no capacity to lead
this crowd gathered around it
undecided as what to do
so, they just stood there
and waited for another sign
