Perhaps I just got burned out on all of the email accounts, Myspace notifications and Facebook's endless onslaught of applications. Perhaps, I have been hauling around too many laptops and cell phones. And maybe, just maybe...I don't have to have multiple operating systems at home. No more beeping, blinging, and flashing lights. The Treo ring sends shivers up and down my spine. You won't catch me with the hottest technical accessory these days. While I do own a bluetooth something or other, it won't be dangling from my ear in social situations while I talk into the air. My private conversations don't need to take over your Public or fill the entire airplane cabin. I find instant messaging distracting. I have started contacting people the old fashioned way. Sending little notes or just picking up the phone and inviting someone to lunch will do just fine for me.
I recently took two weeks off and disconnected myself from nearly everything that requires a power supply only to discover that I felt more 'connected' than I have in years.
Glad to see you are back blogging--it had been quite awhile since we heard from you! One of my New Year's resolutins was to disconnect and it has made me much less stressed than I ever would have guessed possible. I just keep the facebook page and the other website for my company, but otherwise I keep the rule of no time on the computer in the evenings or weekends. It felt amazing to get rid of all the other technical crap that I found was causing me more work than pleasure. Glad to hear you enjoyed your time disconnnecting! Now if we can just get you to come on vactaion without your blackberry!
p.s. I am really enjoying the books you sent-thanks again for them!
