Did you know it is illegal to sell chocolate?

Did you know it is illegal to sell chocolate in your dreams? Perhaps it is the big daddy sales award I received or just the new season of The Apprentice but I had the strangest dream that I was trying to sell chocolate bars to just about everybody. I received a felony charge for doing so which leads me to believe that I need to stop being a Law and Order junkie. More than 2 episodes a day is tampering with sleep. On a side note, the people in my dreams simply do not like chocolate bars with toffee in them ;-)

Yoga part two

I went to a Power Yoga class last night. It wasn't 100 degrees but it was 90 which wasn't unbearable until the contortions began. I was so relieved to know that the class was only an hour. I was unfamiliar with 90 percent of the poses and the variations were done at a rapid pace. It was rigorous and everyone was panting. I certainly felt better although I could barely hold the poses (even modified). Most of the class requires complete balance on one hand and one leg on the floor. Even the intermediate pose which in bikram is a resting pose consisted of an extremely low balanced push up where my elbows were in alignment with my heels. I don't really have the upper body strength to accurately do these poses but this kind of yoga would have to make one lean and strong with regular practice.
I am going to go back tonight and work harder now that I have a better idea of what to expect. I might even go in again before work in the morning as well. The idea of getting a really good work out (and it is) is very enticing. If you read this and are considering yoga, don't be discouraged if at your first class you find that your body is rebelling. It is humbling the first few times but the sense of accomplishment you have when you do a posture completely correct is like the first really good drive you have on the golf course. You just know that everything is in perfect alignment and you have mastered something elusive.

Important fundraiser September 2nd

Below is a message from the Mayor of Greenville Avenue. I encourage everyone in the local area to participate in this fundraiser if possible. This is truly tragic.

Nothing is locked in stone yet, but I want to let you know about an important event that's taking shape. It points out how delicate our lives and health are, and how quickly things can change.

Cindee Crain, Legal Grounds Leslie and I are organizing a running/walking fundraiser. We want to raise as much money as we can for a man savagely attacked at the Gypsy Tea Room 3 wks ago. His name is David Cunniff. He apparently took his teenaged daughters there to a concert and an argument erupted with some skinheads after they were flicking ashes on him. One of the attackers sneaked up on him, bashed him with a beer bottle, and severed his spinal cord. David is now paralyzed. And his health insurance lapsed before the attack. He lives in Lakewood, but currently is at Baylor recovering.

We're putting together the Run Down Violence 5K very quickly, so help us get the word out.

If you're a morning runner, not only would it be great if you could register and pay the entry fee, but then be available to volunteer race night to help with registration or at intersections.

It is a sad story, made even sadder that David is a very close friend of my friend and constituent Darla Peebles. Darla went to see David in the hospital last week and he was keeping his spirits up that day. That’s support this great cause and help David!

Fun with gadgets

I am pleased to announce that I have yet another fun phone. I already have a T-Mobile Sidekick which is one of those gadgets that even I would trade my lipstick for. The Sidekick was purchased because I wanted to be able to receive email at all times, have full interntet browsing functionality, and have a keyboard. The thinking is this: I had to carry a phone, carry a palm and drag my laptop around. Now, utilizing Nokia Access Mobilizer and a little two-factor authentication, I can view my work email, calendar and contacts in a user friendly format specifically for my phone. Although I use it for work functions it is still my personal phone. Now, I have the capability to do much of the same things with my shiny 6610. That is a big move up from our corporate Nokia no-more-warranty-paint-chipped 3390! It is so lightweight especially compared to the Sidekick and it even has a radio with a snug fitting headset. I thought about all of the things I could do with my phone/radio and the first thing that came to mind was none other than the act of jogging. Those of you who know me are familiar with my firm warning that if you ever happen to witness me jogging, it is likely to be my doppelganger and extreme caution is advised.

Idaho

My sister in law and I were discussing this a few weeks ago and it popped back into my mind. Neither of us has ever known someone from Idaho. Maybe Idaho is so great that no one ever chooses to leave. If you know someone from Idaho or are from there please post a reply and satisfy my bizarre curiousity.

Rain

Goodness!! All we have had here is rain. I have given up looking for stars because I live in the city but I am beginning to wonder if I will see the sunshine again too. It is almost depressing. Hopefully the rain won't put a damper on the 4th of July festivities, though.
